the first 10% aka your tithe, My sermon notes from Devoted Series #4 preached by Stovall Weems Celebration Church

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also....if your church does not teach/preach about money then they are not teaching the entire counsel of God, so do not be offended when your minister discusses the importance of your tithe.

If you do not tithe, you are disobedient to God. You must understand the power of the tithe. It is not money that you are giving to man, but rather your tithe is given to God. By being afraid to tithe you are not honoring God. Step out and give your tithe joyfully. God will bless you financially as never before. Let's get one thing straight, your tithe is not giving, it is returning. You cannot do volunteer work in place of your tithe. As discussed in Luke 12:42-48: to whom much is given, much is required.....

You must remember that everything that we have is owned by God...Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

Jesus died for us, for our sins. He is God's tithe to us...as we see in Exodus 13 in the consecration of the first born, Jesus was God's firstborn.

You give the first 10% as the devoted, sacred portion to make the rest be blessed and multiply. Leviticus 27:30 'A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.

It is holy to the Lord and set apart for a specific purpose. It belongs to God and we are not to spend God's money. Malachi 3:8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings.

To tithe is to prioritize! You are making a statement once and for all that God is first and foremost in your life. Matthew 6:33-34 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

When God doesn't get your tithe you will always be chasing...you will never feel financially secure. Who is Lord in your life? Budget your money. This is your holy portion. You can have everything else, but DO NOT TAKE THE TITHE.

As Paul writes to Timothy in I Timothy 6:17-19 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

When you tithe it changes everything, it shows God that you are trusting in him for all things. The first fruit is holy and it makes the rest holy.

Order precedes functionality...if God is not first in your life and in your finances then your life is not in order.

The tithe carries within itself the power of God to bless you or curse you, Look at Cain and Abel in Genesis Chapter 4 for further study.

The tithe is the primary way to acknowledge that God is number one in your life.
